Nickelodeon Rebrand

nickelodeon__full

Nickelodeon has always been a part of my life with shows growing up like You Can’t Do That On Television, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Doug, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, and Salute Your Shorts, to my teenage years with Blues Clues and Sponge Bob, and now Yo Gabba Gabba. We’re all familiar with the splat silhouette with the marker-like font of the logo complimented with it’s vibrant orange. We’re rebranding included an updated logo change to harmonize with the other sister brands of Nick at Night, Nicktoons, Noggin, and The N. You can check the full article on idsgn, which also features stills of Lifelong Friendship Society’s Teen Nick rebranding, which I believe our beloved Mandrews™ was a part of.

Coraline Website

coralineweb

I’ve been interested in this movie since I saw the trailer, but I visited the website to find out info on the anticipated Coraline Dunks. Fortunately, the site had more to offer. An awesome interactive site with lot of features including behind the scene video clips, desktop screensaver of beautiful patterning, photo manipulation to put buttons over your eyes, posters and bookmarkers for you to print out. The art direction they took with this movie was impressive. There’s a link to a blog, which has been talking about the Coraline Dunks for all the collectors out there, but explore the site.

Feltron Eight, Oh Eight.

in addition to being a fantastic designer, recent ADC “young gun” award winner, nicholas felton has made a name for himself as one of the most fastidious life-trackers, publishing annual reports of what his life entails.

his most recent report, detailing his ‘08, include his eating and drinking habits, auditory and literary consumption, and mile by mile tracking of where his time was spent. (note his worst meal, at the university hospital building burger king in salt lake city. (nick, I could have told you that and saved you the stomach ache))

and, as if this all isn’t enough for his plate, he’s in a beta release of Daytum, a site that will allow users to track their lives and display them in his exceptional aesthetic.

you can view the report online here, and buy this and previous annual reports here.

Arlo + Valo

!!! two rollerbladers that the exclusives™ have much love for are getting together to do something great for rollerblading. mr. arlo eisenberg himself just posted this teaser on the franco blog (buy some goods while you’re there too) and i am SO down. this is what rollerblading needs… more attention to art, design, and fostering relationships for NEW executions of our old ideas. other skate companies take note!

jj and arlo, please consider this my personal formal request for 1 pair whenever they are ready.

“grant inbounds the ball to harper… he runs it to mid court… ”
“hands off to pippen, pumpfakes a 3, direct pass to jordan in the lane… ”
“wait.. that’s not jordan!??? this just in folks, there appears to be what looks like a court jester on the court! how’d he get on the floor? security is on the court carrying him out… no word on where jordan is. ”

seriously? this is what you do to “celebrate” the olympics? wow.

jordan brand recipe for success…. jordan VI (awesome), original white color base, (awesome), harlequin olympic color accents, patent leather upper, weird butterfly embroidery on the toe, annnnnd $150 price point… sigh. what’s difficult about making a white version of the DMP VI? white with gold… olympics.. come on.. not rocket science.

the submissions are in… check them out by clicking on the pic above, or HERE. the Exclusives™ got in on the fun too. we’ve got some submissions in there! atleast 3 that i know of, but for the sake of keeping it annonymous, you’ll have to figure it out on your own. vote for the one you would like them to produce now!

Prada: trembled blossom

trembled.png

When I found out that James Jean was doing some pieces for Prada, I was excited…not because I wanted to buy a Prada piece that he collaborated with, but instead wanted to see what he would do for them. He did a great job with it and you can see this animation where he did the illustrations for. You might want to download this to your ipod.

Off Register 2008

off_reg.gif

Off register is a traveling show exhibiting experimental printmaking and a show I have been waiting for for the past 3 weeks or so. I was fortunate to see the show which gave me some inspo to hit the school screen printing studio, which reminds me that I need to pay for that fee. Fuck, that means I can’t buy that Hecox print that I’ve been meaning to buy there. Hmm, rent money or a print? Anyway, I have the photos on my flickr page.

Booyah!…and for all you Chicagoans, make a trip out to West Town and check out some prints…even buy a print or two.

Two Lines Align: Drawings and Graphic Design by Ed Fella and Geoff McFetridge

edfella_untitled_lg.jpg

I can’t stress enough how much I jock McFetridge and this is one of the reasons why I wish I were back living in LA. Big G and the veteran Ed Fella are having a show at the Redcat Gallery entitled Two Lines Align, an exhibition about “the evolution of graphic design in the context of massive shifts in our visual culture“. The opening reception is this Wednesday and if you could make it out there and meet the artists (if they are there) I will award you the Lucky Bastard award. In fact, I will create you a “Lucky Bastard” 24 x 36 screen printed poster (this part I am serious).

LV Blason Commercial

YouTube Preview Image

I saw screen shots of the video not knowing it was going to be a commercial for Pharrell and Camille Miceli’s jewelry collection. BTW, the song is the new NERD track that I’ve been buggin’ throughout the whole week.

An interesting blog in which they present a band logo and explain it’s origin.

Bicycle Guardians Playing Cards

The Guardian deck takes elements of ancient scriptural art and combines them with a modern, industrial design. Probably the finest deck of cards you could own.
Printed on Bicycle’s signature Air Cushion Finish. These are “performer” cards, but you could very well have a great game of hold’em with these.
