I thought I’d shed some light on the statement you made about Macs as “creative machines”:

Every bit of creative software (no, Rockband doesn’t count) you get on macs you get a better equivalent on windows – just because you’ve never used SADIE etc. and that microsoft can actually write office and server software, that doesn’t mean that’s all they do.
Apple, for people with big pockets and small brains. Enjoy.

The reason Apple has this reputation is because from the get go they made this a priority. Apple invented System 7 sound, which was the audio format that made it possible to produce music digitally, before that it was still just tape to tape.

Apple also partnered with Adobe in the development of Postscript fonts, where as Microsoft gave Adobe the finger and developed TrueType. Postscript was a really big deal back in the day when it came to printing and getting crisp results (the output to plates and films would be much crisper using postscript because it would reinterpret vector data multiple times, truetype was made to look nice on screen and not for print).

As a result of giving the finger to postscript Microsoft sorely hindered what typefaces their users could use to this day.

Combined with the color matching software built into OS X, and the suite of digital production tools (Apple invented firewire afterall, making it possible to edit digital video on a computer), Apple has alwaaaaays been on the forefront of offering tech for “creative professionals.”

I guess like I said in an earlier comment is essentially that personally I would rather not take the cheque to pose as a PC when I know damn well I make a living off the opposite computer. Matter of fact I used to use a PC right next to my mac and I didnt enjoy the experience at all. I’ll go on record that I dont do office software if I dont have too, do I use it out of function yes but do I enjoy it no… half the time I copy the contents of word documents out and use text edit cause its faster. Do I have an office suite installed on my personal machine? yup its iwork cause it does the tricks I need it too and doesnt have the install overhead or flakeyness of its Microsoft counterpart.

I’m well aware that adobe makes software for various platforms but I’m a mac guy through and through, your comments about SADIe (which I would more than gladly learn about from you ) and your characterization of me being a downs suffer (thanks again) wont change the fact that I’ll always be a mac guy.

as for having big pockets and small brains, each to their own I suppose if I’m happy where I am financially able to own such extravagant things as mac computers and ipods and iphones with such a small brain then I suppose I’m doing fine by my own standards, plus I’m sure everybody that uses a mac is small brained by your comment and to be lumped so graciously in with those people means at least I’ll have some company.

to alan: actually in the 90’s there were apple clones that ran the mac OS and ran on inferior hardware, they sold out licences to 3rd party hardware companies when times were tough (read: after they fired steve jobs) one of the things that happened when apple began the turnaround is they killed off the clone market and were then the true hardware and software developers. This in turn lets you run a tighter ship with regards to quality of OS, and quality of hardware and chipset. sure its a bit more costly but you know that the components are built to work together….

thats how I see it, anyway I’d rather have that than be stuck buying into a PC.
