Whut Chu Know About A 10 Year Deadstock:

The Original Remedyz. These are my all-time favorite skates of all time. They are flexible, stylish, and perfect for cess slides. I remember seeing my favorite skate Jason Marshall riding them in old Daily Bread magazines and I instantly wanted a pair.

01_03_07_15.JPG

The white Remedyz were made in 97, but they were made for people to test and grommets like me to loath. They were originally distributed by O.U.T.(Once Upon a Time) by vert legend skater Toto Ghali and Kato in France. 98 was the release of the black with red detailing and was released to the general public. Kato himself distributed the skates himself along with the infamous Bryan Bell and Bryan Jaggers in San Diego. It was the first time I would meet them and they would treat me like family. There I met many other people like Chris Haffey, Mike Leaf, Kevin Smith, Damien Wilson, Nick Wood, Dawn Everett (when she was living there at the time), Jon Elliott, and a slew of others. The skates came with the first fifty/50 frames, but with a weak cuff support and paper insoles, which was easily corrected with a Spensco insole.
01_03_07_16.JPG

99 was the release of the black and grey Remedyz with a stronger cuff and their own frames, which kind of sucked because that was the only frame you can skate on them. Granted they meshed well with the skates, but customization was needed since it was the beginning of the UFS movement. I would cut the top of the frame that would insert perfectly into the base of the skate to make it flat. Ground Control was the first to make UFS attachments and I would cut a quarter of it and attach it to the heel fitting a UFS frame perfectly.

Although I am a genuine Remedyz supporter I cannot roll in the newer models. The simplicity of the skate before is not the same as the technicality of the new skates, but that is evolution. Thank you Kato for the memoryz.

*Also, my regards go out to Kato after an accident he had in Big Bear teaching the young bucks how to ski. Make sure you tune into the Rat Tail blog for the footage.

i was remedyz FIRST US. customer ever. ask kato… i am proud of that!! i was the first US kid to buy and support remedyz!!!

    haha yeaaaaa

let me buy those white ones.

they need to retro those with a UFS adapter, they’d make so much coin.

damn… bring it back pt. 3 killed! i wouldn’t have it any other way. thanks for making this the best sunday in months! :-)

Best skates ever. I was the first Canadian customer. I have one pair of the OG red/whites, two pairs of black/greys, and one pair of black/reds. The first UFS remz weren’t too bad, but they still didn’t feel quality like the OG ones. Kato taught me the ways of having a nice tight fitting skate, and I will forever be grateful about learning the ways of the V cut style.

I long for days that Remz will feel like the OG ones again. Although Xsjado’s are well designed, the cuff makes you skate and land like your taking a dump. The OG remz were the lightest, most forward looking skate of all time. The newer remz feel like having your foot in a pot of spaghetti. For now I have settled on M12′s:

I remember I had to trace my foot and fax it to Kato in order to get the right size skate. Also I think the white / black models were also available to the public, I remember Kato had those in stock in only a size 7 or 8.

it was great when Kato found a crate of the white/reds in europe a few years ago, about a year before the first UFS models were released. i got two pairs and built them up with custom hand-made souls and UFS adapters for two friends of mine, one of whom still has his pair, i’ll try to get him to post some pics, they’re still in pretty decent condition.

i did the foot-fax thing as well, i loved how they skated but unfortunately i could never get my feet to not hurt in them. i still skated them for a year or two, i just had to take my skates off every ten minutes or so, haha. i still have a pair of brand new black and grey shells on ice, i’ll build them up eventually.

I remember back when I worked at Rampage in toronto, Kato showed up one sunday afternoon with a friend out of the blue. half drunk and wearing those white prototypes.

We kept the park open late that night and just sat back and watched kato destroy the place which was honestly one of my first experiences with a pro of sorts, I dont even know the dude that was with him, what I do remember is that he was quite drunk and that katos pants were falling down due to a lack of belt, some yellow rope and a few knots remedied the situation.

I remember telling kato that story but a few years ago now and he barely remembers it. But always gets a chuckle out of it.

Kato is def. one of the nicest dudes in the industry.
back in the day when I ordered my Remz through Kato, I remember Bryan Bell answering the phone and taking my order. It seemed like it was just like just them 2 running everything.
And Al i had the same problem.
The skates were awesome, but I remember sessioning a ledge with a bunch of friends and having to take my skates off every 2 tricks.

Did you guys ever hear the rumor Kato may have been in early discussions with K2 to produce the UFS remz. Could you fucking IMAGINE how amazing those skates would have been? The industry would have been changed forever. Maybe I just made this up so I could daydream about it.

Seriously though, does anyone think newer remz will ever be as good as the OG models? Will Kato break away from sunshine in the next 10 years?

I really think the V-cut will start popping up on more blades. The new USD and Deshi cuffs are V-cut. Maybe a V-cut M12? Then a V-cut after market Xsjado cuff?

Oh yeah and when I ordered skates into Canada he lost money on them. He just wanted me to have the freedom of feet baby!

Hey Drew. Did Kato do one of those amazing pointy toe shifty late 360 things?

  12. 12 qcsky

    i want them soo bad.
i feel horrible now since i did not get a pair when i had the chance way back in the day.
is there any chance i can still find a pair somewhere in the world?

  13. 13 showtime

Well apparently they were on ebay a while ago and stupid me I didn’t buy that pair. Someone from switzerland was selling them and i have a suspicious feeling it was Tom Alquist, even though i think he’s french. But I’m on the hunt for them, even for old pairs. They are just to nice and clean.

I totally forgot the fact about faxing your foot size. that shit was hilarious. For me the skates were heaven. Luckily for me the skates fit me in that I didn’t have the problem of taking the skates off every 5 minutes or so, however that problem did occur when remz 2.0 came out. I also tricked them out for cess slides also. I would go so low that I would rip the laces on them, and finding laces that were that long were a bitch for me. So I would cut up the insole that would come with it and hand stitch a piece of that fabric over the laces, similar Jordan 11′s.

After the switch, I forgot how much better it feels to skate the v cut. On my current skates, valos, cut the cuff so that it has a cuff. It made me lean back, but give me that extra flexibility I needed.

Also i remember having the shirts also. Since Marshall was my favorite skater of all time, i had to have his heather grey and the black version of his skates, along with jaggers tee, which i forget the logo. anyway, I miss those skates. They are my Jordan concord 11′s of rollerblading and if I could buy 10 pairs of them, I would.

words cannot express how much i was in love with these skates… WHY THE FUCK DID I THROW A PERFECT SHELL AWAY???!!! jeez. didn’t have the problem of taking them off every 5 mins (well, i might have done, but it look atleast 10 mins to properly put them on in the first place that i wasn’t going to mess around with them), but i did manage to rip the back of every single pair of socks i wore with them. that little rivet on the heel had a habit of getting sharp – i also remember skating in them on the first day which white socks – hahaha, i had a black stained V on the back of them from the leather.

i owe a lot to these skates. sit down backside royals were perfected in them (the cross grab came from BL thursdays!), misfits, low sweatys – all only possible with that cut out back. i want to experience those days again – please! kato – you MUST have some of these knocking around. please please please find it in your heart!

ok, im sounding like a bitch.. fuck it, it’s worth it

    whats the h/o?

    lolz

  16. 16 al dolega

i think all the UFS remz really need is a better liner. the stock ones are too flimsy and thin to properly space and insulate your foot from the shell. if i ever win the lottery the one of the first things i’ll do is start a liner company that makes a GOOD liner for each shell on the market, complete with a replacement shock/heel pad, lace up system (which the og remz had, one of the reasons they fit so well), quality materials, heat moldable foam, and insoles with some actual anatomic shape and arch support…..
