Trudie is one of my good friends and every time I visit Cali I have to see her. The first visit with her was when my sister had an appointment with our knee doctor Dr. Richard Ferkel. He’s a Chicago man and I told him about the stuff I’ve been doing with the Cubs which he was really juiced about. Then he ordered me to bring my sister to a place to get pie. But that wouldn’t happen until I did my rounds and we had some Roscoe’s.
Ok so this isnt really news but more of a though on a couple fronts.
I love videogames and as of late have been bitten by the Guitar Hero bug. Hell I even copped a copy of the hacker edition to play some of them homebrew track. But in this age of cd sales slumping what can the recording industry do to help liven sales? well they need to sweeten the pot. I mean once upon a time they sometimes offered deluxe CD’s with DVD’s accompanying them with some videos and what not. What I really think they should do is start either offering the whole artists new CD via a GH disk or even offer monthly compilations much in the same vein as karaoke CD’s. So I’m callling it now look out for GH compilation CD’s or full on artists doing legit GH albums (dragonforce please) I’m telling you I might just start buying those…

At the last minute I decided to head out to Barcelona to check out Bread & Butter and the surrounding festivities, namely Dave White’s “The Court’s a Battlefield” exhibition. Unfortunately I was a bit too busy enjoying my trip to capture everything but thankfully the infamous BothanSpynet held down the extensive coverage. I’ve hijacked some of the relevant pics but you should check out thebothanspy.net for the full rundown.
Advertising is the vandalism of the Fortune 500. And despite that, we still don’t like it.
Between October 2006 and December 2006, the City of New York has removed or obscured 59 illegal banners on sidewalk sheds. In that same period, Citibank was forced to remove all illegal sidewalk projections at branches around Manhattan. And now, years into NYC’s crackdown on graffiti writers and protesters, after we’ve watched our friends be detained, arrested, beat, fined, tried, and given real jail sentences, not a single corporate toy from any ad firm has had to do any time.
This could mean only one thing. They’ve called off the law. Open City. Let’s all get to work.
This is the first collaboration between the Anti-Advertising Agency and Graffiti Research Lab. Modified from Ji Lee’s Abstractor TV. We used black foam core ($10/sheet) cut with a laser cutter – however, this project can be done with an x-acto blade, black construction paper, and duct tape for next to nothing. It can be repeated using any backlit display – bus shelters, display ads, television store windows… dream big, act now.
I know I’m not the only one here with an unwavering infatuation with Guitar Hero. And I’m sure everyone who’s played has thought “it would be so incredible to program my own songs.”
Well apparently some crafty nerds out there have cracked it and edited their own songs. If you have a modded PS2 you can download the iso and burn a DVD, etc. I don’t know the specifics of the editor or how they programmed out the notes.
This example is the single song EVERYONE wanted to see in the game. Through the Fire and the Flames, by over the top metal band Dragonforce.
Social networking is not new. It has been a staple of internet life since early 2003 and there have been many many MANY incarnates of, pretty much the same service. Friendster, Myspace and Facebook all pretty much do the same thing. It seems a new contender is entering the crowded ring of “OMG BE MY FRIEND!”
I like Virb. It’s easy to use and above all it looks nice. The editor gives you control of how your profile looks (more than facebook) but doesn’t let users create abominations to the eye that crash browsers left and right (**ahem** myspace).
Tyson invited me and I signed up. It would be neat if it was taken over by creatives and leave myspace to the sluts, the bros and the “webcam” offers.
the good folks over at ONE have posted up the cover of issue3 of ONE, and i’m proud to see none other than my little brother chris cheshbot cheshire. it will be on its way to stands shortly with a full cheshire interview, including shots by wes while he was out here a few weeks ago. and of course, a little sneaker talk by yours truly.
The Original Remedyz. These are my all-time favorite skates of all time. They are flexible, stylish, and perfect for cess slides. I remember seeing my favorite skate Jason Marshall riding them in old Daily Bread magazines and I instantly wanted a pair.
all of this past weekend i saw ross anthony taking pics. he would try to sneak a shot here and there, and me being the ultimate photo sneaker, i was way ahead of him. i told him if he wanted, i’d post up HIS version of our trip on here. he agreed that he didnt know how to “make a blog” but that he wanted to do it with me. so, here it is… enjoy. thanks ross! Immediately after my way down to LA, I made a trip back to the bay, but the visit was so rushed and tentative that I couldn’t really see or chill with the homies; nor did I get some work done which I was hoping to do. My sister had her wisdom teeth pulled out and I was there to babysit her and cater to her every needs, which consisted of me getting soup and ice cream for her chipmunk-cheeked ass.
Todd Dominey the man behind Slide Show Pro. Which is awsome BTW. With the help of his team over at Turner Broadcasting just released their new online property Super Deluxe.
Undoubtly sponsored right now by the folks at dodge, Super Deluxe features online content that you wont find on any broadcast channel, as well they provide some social tools to put your own things online and while Todd makes the case that they arent trying to be the next social networking site, all I can hope is that a bit of the design sensibilities from Super Deluxe penetrate the other social networks since i find both myspace and youtube to be just terrible.
So check it out when you get a chance, if the mini previews from Todds site are any indication of the video content then I’ll need to close my office door.
As Mike is away at the moment celebrating his mothers birthday (happy birthday Mrs. Rios!) I thought I’d bring you the final chapter in our weekend in Rye, whilst I’m waiting for my face mask to dry. Booya.
After dinner we went back to the hotel and gathered some energy for the session. One thing I learnt from this trip was that Majette loves 2 things – Sleep and Sharks. If anyone else watched that top 10 of worlds deadliest sharks over the weekend, then get in touch with Majette and let him know which was number 1… he fell asleep. Continue reading ‘RYE pt. 3 (the final countdown)’
after skating for like 4 hours straight today we were invited for dinner by Frankie (this super nice lady who runs the park and reminds me of my aunt) she led us to the buffet joint….
In the new age of meeting your friends online, Design:Related took it a step further, creating a internet social base for designers, photographers, whatever the hell you do to increase your clientèle list. To be one of the cool guys to rock the beta version, head over to the site. They can label it the designer version of myspace, I still won’t get that shit.
